I Tried Not to Like Him

For those of you who don’t know, Cory & I met at work. (Thank you Fort Worth Harley-Davidson) As you should know, neither one of us went out (go out) too often. I had recently started a new a job and finally out on my own with no roommates for the first time so I was trying to save money. Cory was living the Single-Dad life with 3 kiddos. One night Christi (Made of Honor) invited me out to Main Event with a group of friends. I was tired, worked all week and was ready for bed, but it’s good to socialize every once in awhile, right? So I went out for a few games & a couple drinks. Had a good time but was ready to go! Head to the car and see I have a Facebook Message from Cory inviting me out for drinks with him & Leo (Best Man). I’m tired… I don’t want to go… was replying to him asking for a rain check when I figured “Meh, it makes work better when you have friends. These guys seem like good company. Why not?” So I drive on over to, The Poop Deck. I remember leaving and thinking, “I kinda want to keep hanging out with Cory.” And telling self over and over again, “No, we work together. That’s awkward.” Where I sit at work is where all the managers walk behind to come to the back office. When Cory started to walk in the room (my back is to this walkway) I could tell when it was him before seeing or hearing him and activate the butterflies! Kept trying to ignore them, but before too long he asks me out on a date, and another, and another. Then he starts coming over for breakfast every morning after he drops the kids off for school, and I’d go over for dinner every night. Well so much for not liking him…
The Proposal
Fast forward to May. We have an upcoming Poker Run for Brotherhood for the Fallen, Boil for the Blue. We had never ridden together before so Cory suggests we take a ride to Granbury! It’s Mother’s Day so we are planning to meet Mom for lunch. We get to town “a little early” so we stop at a little park with a creek and pretty fountain. After several minutes of nervous pacing, Cory finally gets down on one knee. After I say yes, he tells me, “Your Mom should be here somewhere, if not I’m going to be in trouble!” She was there snapping pictures of it all! And the story continues…
Thanks for reading 😊
The Bateman’s will be headed to the beach to tie the knot!
